Good Health

The Practice promotes Good Health in a variety of ways and is always ready to support patients with their health problems. We have a large selection of Health promotion leaflets available at the surgery and we run some specific sessions to help with common problems. Some of the help we offer is mentioned below.

Smoking Cessation

The practice runs a very successful Stop Smoking service to help people break the habit. If you are interested in making use of this service, please contact reception and leave your details.

Weight Management Clinic

Our clinic is for anyone who is overweight or obese and is interested in losing weight. It is not designed for people of normal weight who wish to be slimmer. During the clinic you can learn about different aspects of weight loss including:

If you are interested in attending the clinic you need to be referred by completing a form which can be obtained from reception. You will then be contacted to arrange an appointment as soon as a place becomes available.

Ear Syringing

Ear, nose and throat specialists in Nottingham have advised us on the best treatment for wax that is causing deafness. This treatment involves using olive oil to soften the wax and usually does not include syringing as this can lead to ear infections, perforated ear drum and tinnitus.

If you know you have a wax problem causing deafness you can start the treatment for yourself – please call in for an instruction leaflet from reception. If you are deaf and you don’t know why, you should see a doctor or nurse.

If you have, or suspect you have any kind of ear problem other than wax you should NOT put anything down the ear except after medical advice. This includes cotton buds.

Influenza and Pneumonia

The Practice offers vaccinations against influenza and pneumonia for anyone who is in the at risk groups that are defined by the government each year. This year for instance anyone over 65 or who has a major chronic disease such as asthma or diabetes, or is a carer for someone with chronic disease is eligible for a flu jab. Patients are contacted by letter each autumn to invite them for the flu jab. If you feel that you need one or feel that you should have been on the list but have not received a letter, please contact the surgery and we might be able to offer you one or explain why you do not qualify. We only give the influenza vaccination yearly in the flu season, but the pneumonia vaccination is usually only given once in a lifetime (unless there are other medical reasons) and can be administered at any time of year.
